Aims

Ever since its foundation in 1927 the Foundation’s aims have been more closely defined. Since the last amendment of its charter on May 12, 1976, the aim of the Foundation has been described as ‘to promote the study of Islam, of Arabic and Indonesia’ (art. 2 of the charter). This also includes the promotion of fields which have been traditionally part of Leiden’s academic profile: Persian studies, Turkish studies, Semitic languages and Berber studies.

The Foundation Oosters Instituut is an independent charity. The members of the board exercise their functions on a personal basis only.

The Foundation Oosters Instituut provides subsidies for scholarly, academic or cultural purposes only.
